Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
